On Monday 22 June, the Mayor of Solihull and Leader of Solihull Council took part in raising the Armed Forces Flag at the Royal British Legion memorial in Shirley Park with the Royal British Legion Shirley.
The annual flag raising ceremony is held in honour of the Armed Forces community, to show support and appreciation for their service. Those attending included local dignitaries, members of the public and pupils from Kingswood School.
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Sardul Marwa MBE, said: “I was proud to start Armed Forces Week by watching the flag being raised, surrounded by our incredible community. This is an occasion to remind ourselves of the dedication of the men and women who serve our country, and recognise service families, veterans and cadets. I was honoured to be a part of this year’s event and would like to thank the Royal British Legion Shirley for both inviting me and organising the event.”
Armed Forces Day takes place on Saturday 27 June and is part of an exciting week of free entertainment for Armed Forces Week. Running in partnership with local businesses and community groups, the programme offers something for all ages including:
Vintage afternoon tea
Art at the Heart
Solihull Air Training Cadets
