Today (18 June) is clean air day. The annual event is focused on raising awareness of the importance of air quality on people’s physical and mental health.
The air quality where you live can make a real difference to your health. Poor air quality can harm your organs and cause heart and lung disease. For children, older people and people with health conditions, poor air quality can have a bigger impact.
Air‑quality sensors have now been installed across Solihull. Visit the WM Air Quality Data Platform and explore the interactive map to find out real‑time information about air quality in your area.
Cllr Andy Mackiewicz, Cabinet portfolio holder for air quality, said: “The wide variety of plans detailed in our Air Quality Strategy to help improve Solihull’s (already good) air quality are all ongoing.
“We’re working closely with local and regional partners including Birmingham Airport and the West Midlands Combined Authority to get cleaner and greener air right across the borough.
“I’d also really encourage everyone to look at the WMCA website, which provides a real-time picture of air quality all across the West Midlands.”
Ongoing campaigns include the Engines Off campaign, which has been rolled out across Solihull schools.
