Have you ever thought about becoming a councillor in Solihull?

With all-out local elections coming up this May, many residents are thinking about how they can play a more active role in their community. If you’re passionate about making a positive difference to our borough and contributing to local decision making, standing as a Solihull councillor could be a rewarding opportunity.

We’ve recently created a new webpage that brings together everything you need to know about becoming a councillor. The role is an important one, and it comes with significant time commitments, responsibilities and expectations. But if you want to be the voice of your community, help shape future services in Solihull, and improve the quality of life for local people, you can find out more here.

The webpage explains what the role involves, the responsibilities you would take on, and the standards councillors are expected to uphold. Your role as an elected official could vary from day to day - from supporting residents with local issues, to helping shape the future of the borough with new ideas and contributing to council meetings. With a responsibility to your ward, Council, and community, councillors serve and represent everyone in their community, helping to lead the local conversation and making their ward the best place it can be.

Councillors must also follow the Code of Conduct which sets out the standards and behaviours expected of elected members. This includes acting with integrity and honestly, treating all persons fairly and with respect, acting lawfully, leading by example, and maintaining public confidence in the role of a councillor.
