Karen’s Column - Mell Square

A short special edition for you today, as we welcome the news that the redevelopment of Mell Square has been granted planning permission

It’s an incredibly important moment for the future of our town. Solihull is a great place to live, work, shop, and visit but we know we have to keep improving to make sure it stays that way. It’ll mean a new name for the area – Holbeche Place, which includes Mell Square and also Poplar Yard and Drury Gardens, which will be opened up as public spaces for everyone to enjoy.

It'll create jobs, bring high-quality new homes to the heart of the town, offer modern and vibrant spaces for shops and restaurants and centre around a large, open, green square as we try to drive forward the evening economy to support our businesses. We’ve worked closely with Muse on the plans, and I think they look great. Thanks to them and to everyone who has worked hard on this project already.

I know there’s plenty of work still to do, as this is only the first phase of the plans, but I’m really pleased we’re on the path to securing the future of Solihull Town Centre.
