The Mayor, Councillor Sardul Marwa MBE JP, welcomed local recipients of the King’s Birthday Honours to the Mayor’s Parlour in recognition of their achievements and contributions to their communities.
Around 1,200 people received honours as part of this year’s King’s Birthday Honours list, which celebrates the achievements of people from all walks of life, including community volunteers, public servants, professionals, and nationally recognised figures who have made a significant impact through their work.
During the visit, the Mayor met with the recipients and discussed their achievements, the work that led to their honours, and the positive difference they have made through their service to others. The gathering also provided an opportunity to recognise the talent, commitment and community spirit across Solihull and the wider region.
The Mayor spoke about how honoured he was to welcome the recipients to the Parlour:
“It was a real pleasure to welcome these remarkable individuals to the Mayor’s Parlour and to congratulate them on receiving such well-deserved honours.
“Whether through volunteering, community engagement, public service or sporting achievement, each of these recipients has made a positive difference and is a credit to Solihull and the wider West Midlands.
“On behalf of the borough, I would like to offer my warmest congratulations and thank them for their dedication, commitment and the example they set for others.”
The recipients welcomed by the Mayor were:
- Lee Carsley – Coach of the England Men’s Under-21 Football Team, who led the side to UEFA European Under-21 Championship titles in 2023 and 2025 (MBE)
- Gordon Cresswell – For services to the payroll profession in the West Midlands (MBE)
- Alan Grigg – Area President for St John Ambulance, for voluntary service to the Solihull community (BEM)
- Georgina Johnstone – Engagement and Consultation Officer for West Midlands Police, for services to the community in the West Midlands (BEM)
- Michael Leonard – Special Sergeant with West Midlands Police, for services to policing (BEM)
- John Wright – For services to cricket in Warwickshire and the West Midlands (BEM)
An MBE is awarded for an outstanding achievement or service to the community with a long-term and significant impact that serves as an example to others. A BEM recognises dedicated, hands-on service to a local community or organisation.
