Last week, the recently elected Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Sardul Singh Marwa MBE JP, and Mayoress, Mrs Satnam Kaur Marwa JP, visited the Land Rover Sports and Social Club to announce Age UK Solihull as one of the Mayoral charities for 2026-27.
At the event, the Mayor gave a speech expressing his affinity with the charity, meeting staff and volunteers to congratulate them on their hard work.
The Mayor of Solihull said:
“Age UK Solihull is a local charity that provides vital support to people across our community, helping reduce isolation, improve wellbeing, and ensuring that people feel connected and supported.
"None of this would be possible without the commitment of their volunteers. Whether they have been with the charity for one, five or twenty-five years, their dedication and generosity are an inspiration to us all.
"I’d like to wish Age UK Solihull continued success, and I am honoured to be able to support the charity during my year in office.”
Age UK Solihull:
Age UK Solihull’s mission is to ensure that older people within the borough can experience the best possible quality of life. The charity offers a range of services to help older people with some of the issues that ageing might bring, including a confidential information and advice service, a befriending service, technological advice, and help with debt and money problems.
Age UK Solihull also hold regular social activities for older Solihull residents at various social clubs, pubs and parks around Solihull, so they can meet new local people and get to know the charity’s volunteers.
The CEO of Age UK Solihull, Anne Hastings, expressed her utmost gratitude to the Mayor of Solihull for selecting them as one of his chosen charities:
“We’re absolutely over the moon – it was such good news when we found out the new Mayor had chosen to support us. It will make an invaluable difference to our charity fundraising and the publicity we’ll gain over the Mayor’s year in office.”
