New Mayor’s Sea Scout announced

Josh Tomlinson has begun his year as the Mayor’s Sea Scout following a formal introduction to the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Sardul Marwa MBE JP. He will accompany the Mayor to civic and community events throughout the year, including Remembrance Sunday.

As part of a long-standing tradition, 4th Knowle Sea Scouts, based at Arden School, select a member of their group each year to serve as the official Sea Scout for the Mayor of Solihull.

Josh, 16, has been a member of 4th Knowle Sea Scouts since the age of six, progressing through Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and now Explorers.

Josh said:

"I’m honoured to be this year’s official Sea Scout for the Mayor of Solihull. I’m really looking forward to meeting new people in the community and representing 4th Knowle Sea Scouts."

Josh has achieved his Chief Scout’s Gold Award, the highest award available in the Scout section for young people aged 10.5 to 14 and is currently working towards his Young Leader Award.

He is studying a triple BTEC in Art and Design Practice at Solihull Sixth Form College and hopes to pursue a career in architecture or design in the future. Alongside Sea Scouts, he enjoys mountain biking, playing sport and cooking for family and friends.

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Sardul Marwa MBE JP, said:

"I am delighted to welcome Josh as this year’s Mayor’s Sea Scout. He has already shown real commitment through his achievements in Scouting, as well as his ambitions both in and out of school.

"The Mayor’s Sea Scout is a valued Solihull tradition and gives a young person a unique opportunity to represent the borough at civic events throughout the year.

"I look forward to working with Josh and seeing him grow in the role. I wish him every success for the year ahead."
