Safety upgrades to begin along Blossomfield Road cycle route

Following proposals presented earlier this year, works to upgrade the Blossomfield Road cycle route will begin on Monday 20 July.

In January, the Council set out plans to help improve safety for cyclists and further encourage active travel along the route. These were shared with residents on the Council’s engagement platform and involve replacing the existing infrastructure (bolt down orca kerbs and wands) with traditional kerbs, forming a safe and fully segregated cycle route.

Work will be carried out during the school summer holidays, by two teams to ensure speed. The first team will start on 20 July outside Tudor Grange Leisure Centre and travel south towards the Stratford Road. The second team will begin work on 27 July at the Dingle Lane junction, also heading south.

Disruption will be kept to a minimum where possible, with Blossomfield Road remaining open throughout. However, the nature of the upgrades means there may be congestion at times and the cycle lane will be closed in sections as works progress.

Side roads along the route will be closed when work is underway at those junctions to keep traffic moving on Blossomfield Road, with advanced traffic signals installed to help ease congestion.
