Solihull Council launches new campaign to make the borough’s roads safer

Solihull Council has launched a new awareness campaign to help make Solihull’s roads safer.

Featuring the strapline 'You can prevent this - Help make Solihull's roads safer', the campaign aims to create a more considerate driving culture across Solihull, helping motorists understand the needs of cyclists, motorcyclists, older people, and children who travel through the borough every day.

The campaign is funded by the Department for Transport’s Safer Roads Fund. It follows extensive local research, including surveys and focus groups.

As a result, the campaign particularly highlights the dangers of speeding, phone use behind the wheel and giving consideration to more vulnerable road users (such as cyclists and pedestrians).

The campaign focuses on all road users and encourages them to be more aware of how irresponsible behaviours can change people’s lives forever.

Cllr Ken Hawkins, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Environment and Infrastructure, said:

“Everyone has a part to play in preventing collisions and making all Solihull’s roads safer. The messages of this campaign focus on empathy and real-life consequences, showing how small changes in driver behaviour can make a big difference.

“With this campaign, we make it clear that each driver can help prevent collisions by being mindful of all road users. The consequences of careless driving can be felt by many, but it can just take one person’s change in behaviour to prevent a tragedy.”
