As communities across Solihull prepare to mark Remembrance Sunday, the Mayor has been honoured to join local residents, veterans, serving personnel and members of the Royal British Legion in paying tribute to all those who have served and sacrificed for our country.
In recent days, the Mayor visited the Poppy Appeal stall in Touchwood Shopping Centre, supporting the vital fundraising work of the Royal British Legion and meeting many of the volunteers who help make the annual appeal such a success. He also attended the Dedication of the Cenotaph Service in Knowle, reflecting on the service and sacrifice of generations past and present.
Over the coming week, the Mayor will join the Olton Remembrance Service, and take part in Remembrance Sunday commemorations in Solihull town centre. The Deputy Mayor will also represent the borough at the Shirley Remembrance Sunday Parade, organised in partnership with the Royal British Legion.
For residents looking to commemorate remembrance on the weekend of Sunday 8 November, events will be taking place all over Solihull, including local Remembrance Sunday services, Spitfire Saturday, and other processions.
A list of road closures to accommodate the processions is available to view on the Council website.
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Sardul Marwa MBE JP, said:
“Remembrance is an opportunity for us all to pause, reflect, and give thanks to those who gave so much in service to our nation. Whether attending a local service, supporting the Poppy Appeal, or observing the national two-minute silence, I encourage everyone in Solihull to take a moment to remember all those who have given their lives in defence of the freedoms we enjoy today.”
“It is a privilege to join residents across Solihull as we pay our respects and ensure that their service is never forgotten."
