Solihull Council has celebrated the creativity and imagination of young people in Chelmsley Wood as part of the Your Future Chelmsley Wood project, announcing the winners of a new art competition designed to capture local visions for a greener, healthier future.
The competition invited young people aged 8 to 18 to submit original artwork inspired by themes central to the Your Future Chelmsley Wood programme, including making homes warmer and healthier, protecting the natural environment, improving access to green spaces, and encouraging more walking and cycling across the area. Entries ranged from drawings and paintings to photography and poetry, with many students choosing to depict their favourite local parks, community spaces, and visions for a more sustainable Chelmsley Wood.
Winners were selected by the Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Annette Mackenzie, who visited WMG Academy for Young Engineers Solihull to present each student with their gift card prize and congratulate them in person.
Speaking at the prize giving, the Mayor said:
“The imagination and passion shown by these young artists is truly inspiring. Their work reflects their pride in their community, as well as a clear vision for a greener, healthier Chelmsley Wood. It’s wonderful to see the next generation leading the conversation about our shared future.”
The Your Future Chelmsley Wood initiative works with schools, families, and community organisations to improve housing, air quality, and green spaces, while empowering young people to shape a more sustainable future for their community.
