How to reserve a grave or cremated remains plot

We will only accept a reservation for a full burial grave for those aged 18 and over. You may only have one grave in your name and payment must be by the grave holder.

To reserve a plot at one of our cemeteries you, or the deceased, must be a Solihull resident. This means:

  • you must pay or the deceased must have paid council tax to Solihull Council
  • the deceased lived in Solihull in the last two years of their life 
  • our adult social care team placed the deceased in a care home outside of Solihull

Your proof of Solihull residency could be one of the following: 

  • a council tax bill dated within the last two years
  • a driving licence that lists an address for paying council tax to Solihull Council (you can check this at GOV.UK)
  • a utility bill for a property within Solihull dated within the last two years
  • any medical or government letters addressed to you at a Solihull property and dated within the last two years 

Paying the deposit 

We issue cremated remains plots on a ‘next available’ basis. If you wish to select your plot, this is an optional extra and is payable when we take your deposit.  You will be able to select this option in your application. 

You will need to pay a non-refundable deposit by credit or debit card. 

Once you have completed the application form, you will be contacted within 14 working days to proceed with your application. If you are reserving a grave, we will contact you to make an appointment. 

Plot selection

If you do not require a grave selection appointment, we will process your application within five working days and contact you for deposit payment.

If you have selected a grave or cremated remains plot, we will allocate the grave number. If you have not selected a plot, we will allocate the next available plot. You will then have 30 days to make full and final payment.

You must make the final payment to secure your Exclusive Right of Burial for your grave or cremated remains plot. Once you make the final payment, we will issue your deed, and your application will be complete. If you do not pay the balance, we will notify you and cancel your application.
