Crisis Payments

Crisis Payments provide urgent financial help when you need it most.

They can help:

  • deal with unexpected financial shocks such as job loss or emergency expenses
  • prevent a situation from getting worse and becoming a crisis
  • provide fast, flexible support based on your individual needs

Crisis Payments are usually awarded as cash, so you can receive the money directly. They are intended to help with short term financial difficulties rather than provide ongoing income.

Depending on your needs, you may also receive:

  • vouchers
  • essential goods delivered directly to your home (e.g. furniture or appliances)

Who can apply?

You may be eligible for a Crisis Payment if:

  • your income suddenly drops (e.g. due to redundancy or reduced hours)
  • your home has been affected by a fire or flooding
  • you have experienced domestic abuse
  • your essential household items break (e.g. washing machine, oven, fridge)
  • you cannot afford basics such as food, heating or travel

We assess each application on an individual basis, taking into account:

  • your household income and essential expenditure
  • your savings and assets
  • your overall financial situation and level of need

If you’re not eligible for a crisis payment, there may still be support available to help you manage your situation. We can refer you to local resilience services, which offer practical advice and support on:

  • budgeting
  • managing debt
  • improving your financial wellbeing.

These services are there to help you build long term stability and make the most of your income, even during challenging times.

What can Crisis Payments help with?

Crisis Payments can be used for:

  • food, energy, water and heating
  • essential clothing and hygiene items
  • housing-related costs
  • furniture and appliances
  • emergency travel or digital access

Whether you need urgent help or long term support, we encourage you to get in touch. Our team will work with you to understand your situation and make sure you receive the support that best meets your needs.
