Chelmsley Wood Public Space Protection Order
A Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) has been introduced in Chelmsley Wood to help tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB).
PSPOs are made by local authorities to deal with issues that harm the community by setting conditions that everybody in a certain area must follow. The aim is to make public spaces more enjoyable for everyone and safe from ASB, such as nuisance, disorder, harassment, alarm or distress.
The order allows authorised people, such as the police, to:
- require groups of three or more people to leave the area between 6:00pm and 6:00am, if they have reason to believe that anyone in that group is causing or is likely to cause ASB
- require a person to take off a face covering if it hides or partially hides their identity, and where there is reason to believe that they are causing or are likely to cause ASB
- stop people from using E-bikes, E-scooters, motorbikes or quad bikes in the area
We understand that most people want to use the area safely and these restrictions will not affect people gathering to shop or visit the area, nor will it affect those wearing a face covering for a valid reason like religion or health.
The order is in effect from July 2025 following a period of consultation with the local community and businesses, and is the result of a joint partnership between Solihull Council, West Midlands Police and Solihull Community Housing (SCH).
