While we fully appreciate the desire to help our libraries, unfortunately we can no longer normally accept donations of books for our lending collections - or as replacements for lost or damaged items. This is because costs are incurred in assessing, cataloguing and processing these items. Some fiction titles would be accepted, please inform us of what the titles are when offering them.
Items that relate to the local history of the area may be accepted by arrangement with the Library Specialist: Heritage & Local Studies. There may also be occasions where donations are actively sought by libraries for special projects or services, in which case requests will be publicised locally.
We are currently working with colleagues in our Community Development Team to identify local organisations that would benefit from second hand books. In the meantime we would ask that you donate unwanted books to Oxfam, The National Trust and other charities.
