We are supporting International Fraud Awareness Week 2025.
Running from Sunday 16 November until Saturday 22 November, the event is organised by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the world's largest anti-fraud organization and premier provider of anti-fraud training and education.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of International Fraud Awareness Week, which is crucial in shining a spotlight on fraud, a hidden crime. This week we will be sharing important information on what fraud looks like, how to spot it, and what to do if you suspect something, as we join the global effort to minimise the impact of fraud.
The Council is committed to protecting public resources and as public servants, we play a crucial role in protecting public money. The Public Sector Fraud Authority estimates that fraud and error cost the UK government between £39.8bn and £58.5bn every year. This staggering figure underscores why every one of us should care about countering public sector fraud – it directly impacts our ability to deliver essential services to the public and it erodes public trust.
Councillor Karen Grinsell, Leader of Solihull Council, outlined the Council’s stance:
“At Solihull Council we are committed to protecting public resources and as public servants, we play a crucial role in protecting public money.
“We do not tolerate any form of fraud or corruption, and any attempted fraud or corruption would be dealt with swiftly and robustly.
“We require all our staff, and those who work on our behalf, to act honestly, with integrity and demonstrate the highest standards of conduct at all times.
“I would encourage our residents and staff to make use of the resources promoted during this year’s International Fraud Awareness Week and feel confident to raise concerns they may have, to support the Council’s commitment to maintain a counter-fraud culture.”
If you want to raise a concern and suspect someone is committing fraud, report it on the Council Website – Report fraud | Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council
