As we approach results day, young people across Solihull can access support from the Council’s Employment and Skills Team to navigate their next steps in further education or employment.
Skills for Success Summer Workshop
A series of summer workshops are on offer for young people seeking to explore their options in September. The workshops will help young people understand possible next steps in either further education or work and build on their skills to make that a reality. Sessions include a CV writing workshop, apprenticeship support, and one-to-one advice on applications. Participants at a recent session said: “I learned a lot of practical knowledge” and “I have settled on the direction I want to go.”
Details and registration for the workshops can be found in this flyer.
Employment and Skills Support
The team provide one-to-one support for anyone looking for work or training, including CV writing, job-seeking and interviewing skills. Essential English, maths, and digital skills training is also on offer at the Solihull Recruitment and Training Centre in Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre.

Chelmsley Wood Culinary School
For those who are looking to pursue a career in the hospitality or culinary sector, free courses are offered by the Chelmsley Wood Culinary School opening in September. The team is working with University College Birmingham for the school’s recruitment for two free courses - a one-year course for young people aged 16-18 and an 8-week course for people aged 19+. Both courses cover food safety, preparation and cooking.
Find out more about the courses from their website.
Councillor Heather Delaney, Portfolio Holder for Economy, Business & Skills, said: “Sometimes, young people may need information or advice to help them in navigating the world of work and that’s what our Employment and Skills Team is here for. The team supports young people in developing their skills for work and helps to set them on the path to a successful career. We are always working with local employers and training providers to ensure that residents can access the right training for the skills that the local employers are looking for. I’d encourage everyone to get in touch and find out more about the support on offer.”
