Food waste caddies to arrive on doorsteps from Monday 3 August

Food caddies next to leaflets

Households in Solihull will begin receiving their food waste caddies from Monday, 3 August, ahead of the start of the new weekly service in October.

Residents who live in a house or flat and have their own bin or sacks will receive a 7-litre kitchen caddy, a 23-litre lockable outdoor caddy, and a guide to using the new weekly food waste collection service.

They will also receive a leaflet on changes to fortnightly rubbish collections and how to make best use of their collections and maximise space in their rubbish bin.

Caddies will be delivered in phases across August and September. Residents do not have to be at home to receive the deliveries. They can find out when deliveries are expected in their local area by visiting our website.

Solihull Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, Cllr Ken Hawkins, said:

“While all councils in England are required to introduce weekly food waste collections as part of the Government’s Simpler Recycling scheme, it is a fantastic opportunity for us all to waste less and recycle more.

“With more than 78,000 households to deliver to, it will take over six weeks for everyone to receive theirs, so bear with us while we work our way around the borough.

“I would like to remind people that the new weekly food waste collections and change to fortnightly rubbish collections begins from Monday 5 October, so please keep the new food caddies aside until this date.”

Residents are advised to put their house number on their new outdoor caddy.

Due to the different arrangements required, those who live in flats and do not have their own bins will receive the service in 2027. The Council will provide further information in the new year.

Residents can learn more about the new service and collection changes at a series of summer information events across the borough.
