Local community champions appointed to Chelmsley Wood Neighbourhood Board

The Pride in Place programme for Chelmsley Wood is progressing to the next stage, with the appointment of nine local community champions to form the new Neighbourhood Board.

The Pride in Place Programme will see £20 million of funding and support given to the area over the next 10 years to make long-term improvements that residents want. And those decisions will be made by this Board. Selected by a panel, the new Board members live or work in Chelmsley Wood and demonstrated their understanding and care for the local community during a selection process at the beginning of July.

The Chelmsley Wood Neighbourhood Board comprises of the following people:

  • Sam Flint
  • Corinne Hobson
  • David Lane
  • Daniel McGuinness
  • Chet Parmar
  • Shesh Sheshabhatter
  • Sarah Spencer
  • Natalie Travers
  • Sara Bonas-Whalen.

They will be joined by Saqib Bhatti MP for Meriden and Solihull East, Cllr Karen Grinsell, Leader of Solihull Council, Cllr Phil Tierney, Ward Councillor for Chelmsley Wood and  Hazel Dawkins from Chelmsley Wood Town Council.

Neighbourhood Board Chair Neil Roberts said:

“We had a great response for the Board vacancies with more than 30 people applying for the ten places available. It is great that the Board is now in place, as we can now get on the first two big jobs – deciding the boundaries of the Pride in Place programme and starting to work up ideas for the Pride in Place Plan."

“For us it is going to be a summer of talking and making sure everyone who wants to speak gets a chance to, which will ensure that our plan is based on the things our community actually wants.”

The full Board of 14 members (including the Chair) is expected to meet next week and minutes of their meetings will be published on the council’s website.
