“Ask away!” is Foster for Solihull’s message, where anyone thinking about fostering can ask a current foster carer anything and everything, about what to expect from being the carer of a Solihull child.
Solihull foster carers as well as members of the fostering team, will be on hand to answer questions about being a foster carer and fostering in general, at a drop in event on 19 May at the Civic Suite, Solihull town centre. It’s an ideal and rare opportunity to chat about what you need to be considered as a foster carer, plus the steps to becoming approved.
Unlike many people’s perception, there are numerous types of fostering to meet the needs of children, from long term and short term, emergency, respite, short breaks and caring for unaccompanied asylum seeking children. Find out more about the different types of fostering here
Councillor Karen Grinsell, Leader of Solihull Council and Cabinet Member for Children's Services and Education, commented:
“We’re inviting anyone thinking about fostering, or who may want to find out more, to come along to this information event. It’s the perfect opportunity to drop in for a drink and a relaxed, no obligation chat, to find out what fostering is all about. Having the chance to talk to both a foster carer as well as members of our Solihull Council fostering team, is ideal if you would consider providing a loving home to a Solihull child”.
The drop in event has been organised to mark the annual Foster Care Fortnight (12 to 25 May), where fostering is highlighted, along with the amazing contribution made by carers across the country. There will be other opportunities to speak to the fostering team face to face during the fortnight, with an information stand at John Lewis Solihull on 20 and 22 May, 10am to 2pm.
Register attendance for the 19 May drop in event here which will allow the fostering team to arrange a carer for you to talk to, although registering is not essential.
