Core Theatre auditorium: RAAC closure update - October 2023

Released:

Our planned investigations of the Core Theatre auditorium and stage roof have indicated that further work needs to take place before the theatre can reopen.

We have been following the recently updated assessment guidance from the Institute of Structural Engineers, and as a result have determined that remedial works will be required.

We will be taking advice from our structural engineer and specialist contractors to agree a suitable remediation programme and establish the next steps. This will include the potential timescale for the closure. Whilst we cannot yet confirm this, given the nature of the works, the auditorium will remain closed beyond the original timescales in our last update.

We understand that this is incredibly disappointing, but safety is our primary concern.

We are continuing the work to move performances that were due to take place in the auditorium to other spaces at The Core or alternative venues where possible, and are contacting customers once shows have been moved, rescheduled or cancelled.

We are delighted to announce that we have been able to secure the Artrix Arts Centre in Bromsgrove for a number of forthcoming performances, including this year's pantomime 'Jack and the Beanstalk', opening on 15 December.

Existing bookings will be transferred to Artrix. Once the tickets have been reissued, should anyone not wish to attend the relocated performance, they can contact The Core Box Office for a refund.

Please note, tickets will not be put on general sale until all ticketholders have been contacted.

A list of FAQs can be found further down the page, which will be regularly updated. Please do check here before contacting the Box Office.

Anyone who has purchased tickets for performances that have been relocated, cancelled or rescheduled are being contacted by the box office. Please bear with us – they will be in touch with you as soon as they can.

We are also working closely with the Solihull amateur theatre groups to understand what this will mean for them and their future performances.

Please be aware, only the theatre auditorium is affected. The rest of The Core building is open as usual, including the Courtyard Gallery, the Studio, Encore Café Bar, Core Creatives, Solihull Connect and The Core Library.

FAQs

  • My show has been cancelled or moved to a date/venue that I can no longer attend. How can I get a refund?

Our Box Office team will be working hard to contact all existing ticket holders. Please wait for us to contact you and we will let you know your options, including a full refund. Please note, the Box Office will need to speak to the card holder in order to issue a refund.

  • I have tickets for a show in The Core Theatre auditorium in 2024 – will this still go ahead?

We do not know how long the auditorium will be closed for. We’re currently reviewing forthcoming performances and ticket holders will be contacted as soon as we have any news regarding their performance.

  • My show has been moved to the Artrix. Will I be able to attend on the same date and time?

We will contact existing ticketholders for the pantomime and other performances that are moved to the Artrix, and look to move you to the same performance date and time.

  • My show has been moved to the Artrix. Will I be sat in the same seat?

The seating plan at Artrix is different to that of the Core Theatre auditorium. We will do our best to locate people in a similar seat to that which they had initially booked. Ticket holders with mobility requirements will also be accommodated.

  • My show has been moved to the Artrix. Where is it and what facilities can I expect?

The Artrix is located at Slideslow Drive, Bromsgrove B60 1GN. There will be a bar facility with drinks and snacks available. Baby changing facilities are also available.

  • Where can I find out more about what is happening?

We will post updates on our website and social media channels when we have more news to share. In the meantime we will be contacting ticketholders when we have information regarding their performances.
