Core Theatre auditorium set to reopen in 2025

Released:

Solihull Council will reopen the Core Theatre auditorium in spring 2025.

Current results from the work completed to date indicate that the auditorium roof should be able to undergo remediation works. A full programme of works is being developed and will commence shortly.

The aim is that by April 2025 the auditorium will be hosting shows, performances and film screenings, followed by a full theatre programme from September 2025.

Councillor Wazma Qais, Solihull Council's Cabinet Member for Communities, said:

“It is really positive news that our auditorium will be back in business next year.

“We now know the work that needs doing and while the theatre is closed, we will take the opportunity to schedule in some other valuable improvement works and equipment upgrades.

“We have built in some contingency planning into the programme from April which will allow some flexibility.

“By bringing back films, National Theatre Live and one-night performances first, we can have a ‘soft’ opening in the spring. We can then welcome back a full theatre programme from September 2025 and the pantomime in December.

“We are working closely with theatre user groups as we recognise the hard work, love and dedication they put into their performances. These productions require an awful lot of planning and preparation work, and we are working with them regarding their return.

“Solihull culture will continue to offer a vibrant programme in the coming months – and a big highlight over the summer is ‘The Core Outdoor’. Four unique outdoor performances will take place in Brueton Park in August, so I would encourage you to take a look at the fantastic theatre shows due to be performed in the scenic lakeside setting there.

“Please check The Core Theatre website to keep up to date with all the latest performances and plans.”

The rest of The Core building is open as usual and a programme of shows, events and activities will continue to be hosted in the Studio theatre, Courtyard Gallery, Encore Café Bar, Core Creatives, Solihull Connect and The Core Library.
