COVID-19 Community Testing Hub to open in Solihull Town Centre

Released:

Solihull Council’s first COVID-19 Community Testing Hub is set to open this Saturday (15 May) on Solihull High Street, next to Halifax Bank.

The Hub will be another way for residents to get rapid, COVID tests, either by taking one there and then (under 18’s will need a parent or guardian with them) or by collecting a supply of tests to do at home.

This is an accessible, walk-in service for people without COVID symptoms. No appointment is required.  Simply turn up during opening hours and speak to a member of staff who can guide you through the testing process. We will be visiting local retailers over the weekend to discuss our testing offer, encouraging staff and customers to visit the Hub and test regularly.

Opening hours will be as follows:

Saturday – 09:30am-4:30pm

Sunday – 10:00am-3:30pm

Monday-Friday – 08:00am-5:30pm

If you need to contact the Hub for test result or general test enquiries at this site, please phone 07554 225531 (line open during the above opening hours).

Remember to wear a face covering (unless exempt) and maintain social distancing when entering the Hub. You may have to queue, so please follow the signs of where to do this.

The testing centre at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre will close today, Friday 14 May.

Residents can still book a test at Newington Resource Centre which is open Mon-Fri.

For all the latest testing information and to find out where you can get tests please visit the Council website.

Ruth Tennant, Solihull’s Director of Public Health said:

“As we approach the next step in the government’s roadmap out of lockdown, we can be cautiously optimistic that we are on the road to the ‘new normal’.

“However, there are things we all need to do to remain on track. One crucial action is to continue to get tested for COVID even if you have had one or both doses of the vaccine. This is because people can still transmit the virus even if they themselves have some level of protection.

“Additionally we know that 1 in 3 of us carry the virus without showing symptoms.  This is why we continue to adapt our community testing offer to make it as easy as possible for everyone within the borough to get a test to ensure we can all keep our families, friends and wider community safe.

“I hope that this new Community Testing Hub in the heart of Solihull town centre will allow local businesses and shoppers to pop in and quickly get a test or collect rapid COVID tests at their convenience.

“Moving forward the Hub will also be able to provide general health and wellbeing advice for residents as we begin to carefully return outdoors and mix with others."
