Local opportunities showcased at Solihull Apprenticeship Show

Released:

Young people across Solihull had the chance to find out more about local opportunities at the Solihull Apprenticeship Show.

The free event took place on Tuesday 24 October at Cranmore Park and attracted over 2,000 visitors.

Young people and parents/carers were able to learn about apprenticeship opportunities up to degree level that are on offer across the region. A range of employers and training providers across various sectors including construction, technology, financial, hospitality and health care were on hand to talk to visitors.

Exhibitors included Solihull College & University Centre, Virgin Media O2, Make UK, JLR, British Army, NHS University Hospitals Birmingham, and the Council. Their current apprentices shared their experiences and answered questions from young people exploring apprenticeship pathways.

The Mayor of SolihullCllr Diana Holl-Allen MBE, said:

“The Solihull Apprenticeship Show was a great opportunity for young people to find out more about this alternative route for further education.

“It was great to see that the venue was packed with visitors. I was amazed by the energy from everyone. Thanks to all the companies and organisations who took part and to staff who organised such a successful event that helps young people to find their way to employment.”

Cllr Ian CourtsLeader of Solihull Council, said:

“Sometimes, I feel that the word ‘apprentice’ does not do justice to illustrate the wide range of interesting and skilled jobs where training can be available. Getting the right training can help put young people on the right track to a successful career, which lays a solid foundation for our economic growth in the long run.

“It was fantastic that so many young people were able to hear about the experience from current apprentices and learn about the opportunities offered by local employers such as Balfour Beatty Vinci and Paragon, as well as our very own staff at Solihull Council.”

Cllr Karen GrinsellDeputy Leader of Solihull Council, said:

“Apprenticeships are a great alternative for further education. You can earn as you learn and get a taste of what it will be like working in a specific sector or role. The Apprenticeship Show enabled young people to talk to those who can really help them make that decision.

“Young people are at the heart of all we do. We work with partners and businesses for young people and schools to gain better understanding of the various training and career pathways. This will enable young people to achieve their potential. It was encouraging to know that so many residents were excited by the opportunities on offer.”

Chantelle Powers, Early Careers Apprentice Recruitment Lead at JLR commented: “We really enjoyed attending the Solihull Apprenticeship Show. The attendance for the event was fantastic! We had great conversations and engagement with a range of students and parents to raise the awareness of our apprenticeship opportunities and even our graduate roles.”

The next apprenticeship show will be held on Wednesday 7 February 2024 in North Solihull Sports Centre. Please refer to the webpage for further updates: Solihull Apprenticeship Show
