Mayoral charities launched

Released:

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Diana Holl-Allen MBE, recently attended launch events for two of her chosen charities.

In July, Councillor Holl-Allen announced the Marie Curie Hospice, West Midlands as her mayoral charity. On 10 August, the Mayor met with Rachel Nash, Marie Curie’s Deputy Head of Fundraising for the West Midlands & South West. Having previously worked as a nurse at its predecessor, Warren Pearl, and unfortunately lost friends and loved ones to cancer, the Hospice is a charity close to the Mayor’s heart.

The Mayor has also chosen to support the British Heart Foundation for the forthcoming year, which funds research into heart and circulatory diseases and supports those affected by them.

On 8 August, the Mayor hosted a gala dinner at the Knowle Indian Brasserie with all profits being donated to the charity. Balvinder Kaur, the Foundation’s Fundraising Manager for Birmingham and Solihull, and her colleague, Priti Kaur, were in attendance. Overall, the event raised £778.14 for the British Heart Foundation.

The Mayor of Solihull said:

“As Mayor, nominating just one main charity to support is never easy, especially as there are so many wonderful charities working in our borough.

“This year, I am delighted to be working closely with, amongst others, the Marie Curie Hospice and British Heart Foundation: two organisations that are very dear to me.

“It was a pleasure to meet with representatives from both charities recently to ‘launch’ our partnership and discuss how we’re going to promote their work and fundraise over the course of my mayoralty.

“This is just the start: we have lots planned to support these wonderful causes, including the Mayor’s charity concert and Mayor’s ball which will take place next year.”
