Amy Jolliffe, commenced her year as the Mayor’s sea scout, following a formal introduction to the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Mrs Diana Holl-Allen MBE.
As a long-standing tradition, 4th Knowle Sea Scouts, based at Arden School selects a scout from their group to be the official sea scout for the Mayor. The annually selected role includes accompanying the Mayor to official events, such as Remembrance Sunday.
Amy, aged 16, has been in the sea scout explorers since 2021 and is currently in her first year of studying her A-levels in Biology, Drama and Music at Arden Academy.
Amy recently completed her Bell Boat course to allow her to train others to navigate a bell boat and has been working toward completing her Duke of Edinburgh awards. Aside from her love of the aquatic life, Amy also is an avid thespian, and will soon be performing in Peter Pan and a pantomime of Dick Whittington.
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Mrs Diana Holl-Allen MBE, commented: “It is a pleasure to have a sea scout to represent the borough and support the Mayor at civic events. Amy is a dedicated, intelligent individual who I’m proud to call the Mayor’s sea scout.
She has contributed greatly to the sea scout community, and I wish her luck in all her endeavours in the troop.
The sea scout is an important tradition within Solihull and the Mayor’s role. It offers a young person a fantastic chance to represent Solihull. The sea scouts provide wonderful opportunities for all young people to gain real life skills and experience in different environments. I look forward to supporting this throughout my time as Mayor.
