On Monday 11 March, the Commonwealth flag was raised over the roof of Solihull Council House in celebration of Commonwealth Day.
At the annual Commonwealth Day ceremony, the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Diana Holl-Allen MBE, was joined by Deputy Lieutenant of the West Midlands Chris Loughran to mark the 75th anniversary of the modern Commonwealth of Nations.
As part of the ceremony, Deputy Lieutenant Chris Loughran read the Commonwealth Day message from His Majesty the King and the Mayor read out the Commonwealth Affirmation. The Commonwealth flag was then raised, with the occasion marked by music from a piper.
The Mayor said:
“It was a privilege to lead one of the many ceremonies taking place today around the world to celebrate Commonwealth Day. This event gives us a chance to affirm the unity, diversity and shared values that bring the 56 Commonwealth countries together.”
Commonwealth Day is celebrated on the second Monday of March every year. The theme for Commonwealth Day 2024 is ‘One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth’.
