Young people in Solihull have been benefiting from careers education in schools and colleges thanks to Solihull Careers Hub, and this year’s successes were celebrated at an event on Tuesday 12 July.
The celebration took place at Hogarths Hotel and was attended by young people, employers, local schools and colleges, and stakeholders, to showcase the positive impact the Careers Hub has had during this academic year.
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Ken Meeson, attended the celebration event and handed out certificates to award winners. He said:
“Solihull Careers Hub is doing excellent work to support our schools and colleges, equipping them with the tools they need to provide exceptional careers education for young people.
“It is important that young people in the borough receive good careers education and guidance as a base to help them build their future and develop the skills they need. The Careers Hub helps to make sure this is provided.
“Thank you to everyone who has been involved and contributed to the success of the Hub in the past academic year. I am sure this is something that we will continue to celebrate in the years to come.”
Set up in 2019, Solihull Careers Hub provides fully funded resources, training, and tools to support schools and colleges in providing high quality careers education for their young people. The Hub has been working together with their local Enterprise Adviser Network (business volunteers matched with schools and colleges), Cornerstone Employers, universities, training providers, local businesses, and career professionals to achieve this.
The event focused on talks from the Careers Hub Team, Careers Leaders, employers, and various stakeholders, about progress made in the past year. There was also an awards presentation and talks from school children from Grace Academy on their positive experiences taking part in careers activities.
Councillor Karen Grinsell, Deputy Leader of Solihull Council, also attended and spoke about the important work the Hub does in improving outcomes for young people and helping to support the future workforce.
She said:
“I am really proud of all the hard work Solihull Careers Hub has done in collaboration with Solihull schools and businesses to support the delivery of such a good standard of careers education. This not only supports the development of young people through giving them meaningful experiences and knowledge, but it in turn also helps to support our future workforce.
“Careers has been highlighted as a strength in many of our recent school Ofsted inspections. This is very encouraging and shows that the Careers Hub has had a very positive impact and it is something that should be celebrated.”
Recipients of awards included: Grace Academy School, Triple Crown Centre, Jenni Bryan from NSL Services Group, and Ellie Beattie from Hogarths Hotel.
