Solihull Council elects Councillor Annette Mackenzie as 72nd Mayor

Released:

Councillor Annette Mackenzie, who has been representing Shirley East Ward as a Local Councillor for 11 years, was elected as the 72nd Mayor of Solihull on Tuesday 13 May 2025. Her term will run from 2025 to 2026.

Elected to the authority in 2014, Councillor Mackenzie is from the Conservative Party and previously worked as a Family Support Worker before becoming a councillor.

During this time, Cllr Mackenzie served on several committees, including the Children’s Services & Education Scrutiny Board, the Health & Adult Social Care Scrutiny Board, the Joint Health Overview & Scrutiny Committee, and the Solihull Foster Panel.

As Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Mackenzie will be supported in her role by her eldest daughter, Kimberley Dodd, as the Mayor’s Consort.

Following her appointment as Mayor, she said:

“It is with great pride and a deep sense of honour that I accept the role of Mayor of Solihull. I am truly humbled by the trust that has been placed in me, and I pledge to serve this community with dedication, integrity and compassion.

“As Mayor, I look forward to working closely with community groups, local businesses, schools, faith leaders, and residents, across all parts of our borough. My key focus will be on looking after the elderly and giving hope to the next generation.”

The Mayor of the Solihull Council is elected annually by the Council from among the elected councillors. The primary role of a Mayor is to preside over meetings of the Council. If they are not present at any meeting of the council, then the Deputy Mayor must preside. The Mayor must have a full knowledge of the provisions of standing orders but they can normally consult the Chief Executive. The decision on the interpretation of standing orders and on any questions not provided for is final.
