Street Tag comes to Solihull

Released:

Solihull Council will be partnering with the innovative Street Tag team to get residents on the move discovering their local areas, parks and green spaces by walking, running or cycling more.

Street Tag will launch in Solihull Schools and communities on 7 May 2024 for the first challenge leader board.

Street Tag is a FREE fun, family-friendly game that enables players to collect points by using their smartphones to scan virtual tags. The tags will be found in various locations across the borough including parks and open spaces, libraries, community and leisure centres and other areas of interest.  The app will log any activity completed by participants, and it will show on a range of competitive community and school leader boards.

Schools join the Schools Leader Board and compete against each other, while residents in small groups of six or less can compete against other families or groups on a Community Leader Board.

Leader boards will be active for 8 weeks and the top teams will win fantastic prizes.

Councillor Wazma Qais, Solihull’s Cabinet member for Communities and Leisure, said:

“We’re really excited to be working with Street Tag and hoping to replicate the impact they have had across the country.  Street Tag is about incentivising people to get active and explore their local area, their parks, open spaces and places of interest.

“Street Tag is one way to encourage children and adults to be more active through a fun and competitive app. I’m sure if people follow the ‘tags’ they’ll find out more about the place they live in, as well as getting out in the fresh air.

“This initiative will link residents with local green spaces, cultural, and local business through prizes and I do hope as many schools, businesses and community groups as possible will join in the fun and get active too.”

Seun Oshinaike, Founder of Street Tag said:

"We are excited to be forging partnerships in Solihull that will help families and communities get physically active in a fun, sustainable and accessible way.

“Street Tag is a great opportunity for people to engage in a variety of activities and competitions using their phones and by working together in schools or groups to harness their competitive spirit to win prizes.”
