Changes to rubbish and food waste collections
As of 5 October 2026, most households in Solihull receive a:
- fortnightly rubbish collection (alternate week to recycling)
- fortnightly recycling collection (alternate week to rubbish)
- weekly food waste collection
The following examples show what your collections could look like across a four-week period:
You can check your collection day using our bin collection calendar.
Why has the service changed?
The changes will help increase recycling by making it easier to use the new weekly food waste collection service alongside our existing recycling service.
How to make the most of your collections
Use your food waste and recycling collections as much as possible to create more space in your rubbish bin.
Find out what you can recycle, including soft plastics and plastic film.
There is no limit to the amount of recycling you can put out for collection as long as it is presented in a suitable container.
What do you need to do?
To help us provide a good service, please:
- separate your recycling and use your brown wheelie bin/clear sacks
- use your food caddy for your food waste
- only put non-recyclable waste in your black wheelie bin/purple sacks
- do not leave extra non-recyclable waste next to your black wheelie bin/purple sacks
- make sure your containers are out by 6:00am on collection day
- label your bins with your house name or number
