Independent Travel Training

The Independent Travel Training (ITT) service teaches people how to travel safely and independently and is provided by Safe and Active Travel officers within the Highways team.

We work in partnership with individuals to meet their goals while also recognising their achievements and efforts.

What is Travel Training?

It is personalised training to teach a person to travel to and from their destination on their own whether it be school, college or work. Being able to access public transport helps people make their own choices about how they live and what they want to achieve. Our travel trainers work at the pace of the individual every day to develop on their skills and confidence.

School Travel Training Team

We teach young people who currently travel to school in Solihull provided taxis. We work on a one to one basis every day teaching the skills to travel a specified route to and from school. Once a young person has successfully learnt the skills to travel independently, confidently and safely; we will provide them with a travel pass which replaces the taxi provision.

Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) Travel Training Team

We now provide training for people aged between 15 to 29 who qualify as NEET.

NEET training are personalised one to one sessions based around an individual's specific needs.

Skills for Success Travel Training Team

We now provide training for people aged 15+ in Years 10, 11 and 12 who are risk of not being in education.

Skills for Success travel training is also personalise one to one sessions based around individual’s specific needs.

Why we need your information

We need your information to:

• To Identify the needs of the students
• To support schools, parents and carers  to encourage independent  travel

Where relevant we process a variety of information relating to individuals including:

• Name
• Address
• Contact details (phone number and or email)

Who information is processed about

We process information about the child or young person who receives the travel training.

Who information may be shared with

Where necessary or required we share information with:

• Parents/carers
• Schools and colleges
• Other education processionals and stakeholders
• The employees who deliver the service

How long we will keep your information

Business Need or maximum of 5 years after service delivery.

Transfers Overseas

Information is not transferred overseas.
