Nature of work
The Sustainable Travel Team works closely with schools and the wider community to promote safer, healthier and more sustainable modes of transport for young people and their families.
The Sustainable Travel Team delivers training in pedestrian and cycling skills including WalkSmart, Balanceability, Learn to Ride, Bikeability Levels 1,2 and 3, Scootability, GCSE PE in Cycling and BTEC Qualification in Bike Maintenance. We deliver classroom based lessons for children transitioning from primary school to secondary school, we have introduced a Junior Travel Ambassador Scheme and support schools operating Walking Buses. We provide information and resources including the Starting Small guide for carers of young children, Road Safety Nursery Kits and advice for tackling parking congestion around schools. We promote the national accreditation scheme ModeShift STARS to generate School Travel Plans and to reward schools for promoting safe and sustainable activities within their school communities.
