Asbestos Permit Scheme

Solihull residents can dispose of asbestos that has come from their home by applying for a permit. This allows residents to take their asbestos to a facility in Coventry for safe disposal.

It is essential that a permit is obtained before visiting the disposal site.

You can obtain an asbestos permit and book into the site by calling 0121 704 8000.

You must know the registration number of the vehicle you will be using.

We only accept the following types of asbestos:

  • corrugated/flat roofing sheets (max 5 sheets/bags)
  • roofing tiles/slates
  • guttering/down pipes
  • plasterboard containing asbestos (max 5 sheets/bags)
  • bath/ceiling/ironing board panels
  • storage heaters containing asbestos
  • vinyl (PVC) or thermoplastic tiles containing asbestos (max 5 bags)

A maximum number of 5 sheets/bags of asbestos can be disposed per visit.

Asbestos will need to be double wrapped in plastic and sealed in manageable sizes, i.e. capable of being lifted into a skip at shoulder level by 1 person. The asbestos container is able to accommodate sheets up to a maximum of 2 x 1 metres (approx. 6 x 3 ft).

The Health and Safety Executive have published guidance on how to safely handle and remove asbestos.

Commercial, trade or business waste/asbestos will not be accepted.
