Care at home

Care at home services support people in their own homes to look after themselves, stay independent and manage daily living tasks.

What is care at home?

Many people prefer to receive care in their own home where possible.

Care at home, also known as home care or domiciliary care, is provided by a trained carer. It can be provided as a long-term service or for a short period while you recover from illness or injury.

A paid carer can support you with:

  • getting out of bed
  • washing and dressing
  • using the toilet
  • preparing and eating food
  • remembering to take your medicines
  • getting ready for bed

How do I get care at home?

You can arrange care at home privately or through Solihull Council.

If you want to us to arrange your care at home, you will need to complete a needs assessment

If you want to arrange your own support, you do not need an assessment. You can find a registered provider on the Care Quality Commission website.

For support and advice, you can visit our Community Advice Hubs or contact our adult social care team by:

Who pays for care at home?

If you are eligible for social care, we may fund some or all of the cost of your care depending on the outcome of your financial assessment.
