Caring for someone who lives in a different borough

This page explains where you can get support if you and the person you care for live in different council areas or if the person you care for lives in a care home outside Solihull but is a Solihull resident.

If the person you care for lives outside Solihull, you can use the government’s find your local council search to check which local authority (council) is responsible for social care in that area.

If my family member is a Solihull resident but we have agreed they would move to a care home where I live, who arranges that?

*NHS Trust where the person is placed must notify the home local authority. Joint discharge planning applies with NHS Trust and the home local authority.

**If your family member is responsible for funding their own care, you would agree and arrange this with them privately. If they are supported by the NHS under NHS continuing healthcare (CHC), it would be arranged by the Integrated Care Board.
