Managing your direct payments
This page explains the different ways you can manage your direct payments and the support available from Solihull Council.
Prepaid card for direct payments
You can choose to receive your direct payments through a prepaid card provided by us. This can be used to pay for your care and support.
This is the easiest option, as it offers several benefits. For example:
- you cannot spend more money than is on the card
- you do not need to open a separate bank account
- you do not need to submit bank statements to the Council
We can issue a prepaid card in your name or to a suitable person, such as a trusted family member or friend, who can manage the payments on your behalf.
Managed account
If a prepaid card is not suitable, we may be able to pay your direct payments to a third-party provider. This is known as a managed account.
Our managed account provider will manage your direct payments on your behalf, including making agreed payments for your care and support.
Payroll services
If you employ a personal assistant (PA), we can support you by arranging payroll services through our approved payroll provider.
The payroll provider can help with:
- calculating wages
- producing payslips
- managing tax and National Insurance deductions
- meeting employer payroll responsibilities
