Personal budgets
If you’ve had an adult social care assessment and have eligible care and support needs, we will work with you to develop a care and support plan. As part of this, we will calculate your personal budget.
What is a personal budget?
A personal budget is the amount of money needed to pay for the care agreed in your care and support plan. This includes:
- the amount we contribute towards the cost of your care
- the amount you contribute towards the cost of your care*
*The amount you pay towards the cost of your care will depend on the outcome of your financial assessment. This looks at your income and savings.
A personal budget is not extra income.

How to manage your personal budget
You can choose to have your personal budget:
- managed by us
- paid to you as a direct payment
You will still need to pay any charges for your care. You’ll be told how much you need to pay in your financial assessment.
Personal budgets for carers
If you are an unpaid carer, you could receive your own personal budget.
You can check if you are eligible by asking us for a carer's assessment.
