Retail, hospitality and leisure discount
In the Chancellor’s Budget on 27 October 2021, it was announced that the government would provide further business rates support for eligible retail, hospitality and leisure (RHL) businesses in England occupying a qualifying property.
The discount for eligible properties from 1 April 2021 is as follows:
- 1 April 2021 to 30 June 2021 - 100% (uncapped)
- 1 July 2021 to 31 March 2022 - 66% (with a cash cap of £2M for businesses required to close as at 5 January 2021, and up to £105,000 for businesses permitted to open at that date)
- 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023 - 50% (with a maximum cash cap of £110,000)
- 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2025 - 75% (with a maximum cash cap of £110,000)
- 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026 - 40% (with a maximum cash cap of £110,000)
The government has announced the 40% relief for retail, hospitality and leisure will be discontinued from April 2026.
The new retail multipliers are intended to replace the RHL relief. For more information visit GOV.UK.
Where we believe the eligibility criteria are met, we will issue ratepayers with bills calculated using the relevant retail multiplier. If you believe the incorrect multiplier has been used to calculate your bill, please contact us explaining which criteria you believe you meet in the above guidance.
