Solihull local council elections
Voters in Solihull will head to the polls on Thursday 7 May 2026 for the Solihull local council elections.
This page provides information to help you understand how this year’s elections will work.
What's different this year?
Following a recent local government boundary review, ward boundaries - and in some cases ward names - have been updated to ensure each ward represents a similar number of voters.
Because of these changes, each ward will elect three Councillors, and voters will be able to vote for up to three candidates on their ballot paper.
Wards and candidates
Solihull has 17 wards. You can use our online map to search for your ward.
Your ballot paper will list the candidates standing in your ward.
A full list of candidates can be seen by viewing the Statement of Persons Nominated.
Voting by post or proxy
The deadline to apply to vote by post or proxy for the Solihull local council elections on Thursday 7 May has now passed.
Emergency proxy vote
In certain circumstances, where you have an emergency that means you are unable to vote in person, you can apply for an emergency proxy. This must be something that you were unaware of before the normal proxy vote deadline (Tuesday 28 April 2026, 5:00pm). This includes:
- you cannot vote in person because of a medical emergency or disability
- you cannot vote in person because of your employment
- the photo ID you were planning on using to vote has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed
- you’ve not yet received a new or replacement photo ID that you’ve ordered
How to apply
To apply, download and complete the relevant form:
- apply to vote by emergency proxy based on your employment*
- apply to vote by emergency proxy based on a medical emergency or disability*

*If you are applying for an emergency proxy vote because of a medical emergency, disability or your employment, your application form must be signed by an ‘appropriate person’ (for example your employer or a doctor).
