Work experience – supporting students entering the world of work

In May 2025, the Government’s Work Experience Guarantee set out the ambition that every young person should access two weeks’ worth of high-quality, multiple workplace experiences.

Modern work experience gives every young person the chance to take part in high-quality workplace experiences totalling 10 days during their education. These opportunities help connect students with industry, build essential skills, boost confidence, and inspire future career choices — reducing the risk of young people becoming NEET. A framework called “equalex” has been developed to help schools to support students.
