Proposals for next step in Kinghurst Village Centre regeneration put forward

Released:

A report containing recommendations for the next stage of redevelopment in Kingshurst will be considered by councillors later this month.

The report sets out a proposed approach which could see construction begin on the former Mountfort Pub site on Over Green Drive as early as this August. Initial construction on this key site would involve the delivery of 25 new net zero carbon social rented homes.

The proposals are part of the wider Kingshurst regeneration scheme, already under way, which will see the village centre completely transformed – providing a mix of sustainable housing and modern retail space centred around a brand-new community, health and wellness hub.

Elsewhere on the site the first significant stage of demolition got underway in March, which includes dismantling the entire body of the main shopping parade. This work is expected to be completed by the end of July.

Delivery of this important North Solihull scheme follows a thorough process of masterplan development based on consultation with local residents and key stakeholders, including health sector and community partners, culminating with full Planning Permission for the scheme being granted in April 2022.

If approved, this next step will mark a major milestone for the council led regeneration scheme and make a significant initial contribution to the 78 new homes envisioned in the masterplan.

The report can be viewed in full on the Council’s website and will be considered at the next Cabinet session on Thursday 15 June.

Councillor Ian Courts, Leader of Solihull Council and Portfolio Holder for the Economy, said:

“This is a chance to really kick-start the delivery in Kingshurst village centre and crack on with building high quality sustainable new homes. We have already made solid progress with the demolition of the main parade, which itself will make way for further redevelopment. If agreed at Cabinet this proposed approach will allow us to move straight on to the first stage of construction without any break in the delivery programme.”
