Project background
The A45 Coventry Road / Damson Parkway / Terminal Road junction is a signalised junction carrying high traffic volumes, including local bus services. It currently experiences significant congestion during peak periods and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) shift change times.
The A45 links the M42 with:
- Birmingham City Centre
- Birmingham Airport
- the NEC
It plays an important role in supporting regional connectivity and economic activity.
Damson Parkway provides an important link to Solihull town centre and the JLR, while Terminal Road serves Birmingham Airport, including hotel access, public car parks, operational traffic, and public transport movements.
The scheme aims to improve how the junction works, addressing existing congestion by:
- adding and reallocating lanes
- updating the pedestrian and cycle crossings
- upgrading the signals.
These improvements will maintain effective access to major regional destinations and support long-term growth.
The junction is particularly important for JLR, Birmingham Airport and hotels in the area, forming an important route for freight, staff, visitors and operational traffic that supports wider economic activity.
