Changes to your rubbish collections (alternate weekly collections)
This page provides everything you need to know about the changes we're making to rubbish collections.
What is changing?
We are changing how often we collect your rubbish. From 5 October 2026, we will collect your rubbish fortnightly instead of weekly.
We will also be introducing a weekly food waste collection.
If you live in a flat and use shared bins, there will be different changes. Our flats recycling page provides further details.
Why are we making this change?
Making this change will help us to improve our recycling rate as you will be able to make full use of our new food waste collections and existing recycling service.
It will also allow us to improve your collection service.
What will my collections look like?
As of 5 October 2026, you will receive a weekly food waste collection.
We will collect your non-recyclable waste and recyclable waste on alternate weeks every two weeks. The following examples show what your collections could look like:
Not everyone’s collection will follow the same pattern, so if you are unsure, you can use our collection calendar to check your collection dates.
Your recycling and garden waste collections (if subscribed) will stay the same. Only your rubbish collection is changing.
What do you need to do?
Once the new collection service begins in October, please:
- continue to separate your recycling and use your brown bin/clear sacks
- use your food caddy for your food waste
- only put non-recyclable waste in your rubbish bin/purple sacks
- make sure your containers are out by 6:00am on collection day
- label your bins with your house name or number
