Care homes can support people who:

  • are finding it difficult to live at home even with help from family, friends or paid carers
  • have a medical condition that needs special care day and night
  • have been told a care home is the best choice after having a needs assessment

We also provide residential care for people with learning or physical disabilities.

Types of care homes

There are two types of care homes, depending on the support you need.

Residential homes

Residential care homes provide 24-hour support and can help with your personal care. This includes:

  • eating and drinking
  • getting out of bed
  • washing and dressing
  • going to the toilet
  • taking medication

Residential care homes also provide:

  • social activities
  • companionship
  • wellbeing support (including mental health support)

Nursing care homes

In nursing care homes, you can get the same support as residential care, with additions for your health needs. There are qualified nurses on site at all times for residents with complex care and support needs.

Nursing homes usually cost more than residential care homes because of the extra support they offer.
