Claiming carer benefits and financial support

As a carer you may be able to claim benefits to help you with your caring role. 

There are several ways you can access support including: 

Carer's Allowance

You may be eligible for Carer's Allowance if you: 

  • are aged 16 or over
  • care for someone for at least 35 hours each week
  • you have been in England, Scotland or Wales for at least two of the last three years
  • you normally live in England, Scotland or Wales, or you live abroad as a member of the armed forces
  • you are not in full-time education
  • you are not studying for more than 21 hours a week
  • you earn £196 or less a week after tax, National Insurance and expenses

Help, advice and support for carer benefits

Direct payments for carers 

You may be entitled to a carer's direct payment to support you in your caring role following a carer’s assessment.

If you have been assessed and have a support plan, your benefit entitlement will be discussed as part of this with your social worker or a support worker from Carers Trust Solihull.
