Tell Us Once

You can use Tell Us Once to tell most government organisations about a death.

When someone dies there's lots of things that need to be done at a time when you probably least feel like doing them.

The Tell Us Once Service can help you tell the people who need to know, such as:

  • council services e.g. housing, housing benefit, council tax, Blue Badges and the electoral register
  • HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) e.g. personal tax and Child Benefit and Tax Credits claims (You will need to contact HMRC separately for business taxes, like VAT)
  • the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) e.g. State Pension and Universal Credit
  • the British Passport Office
  • the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) e.g. driving licence and registered keeper details

How it works
