How much does it cost?
You only need to pay for the cost the certificate.
Certificates cost £12.50 and you can order as many as you need when booking your appointment.
Who can register a birth
Who can register a birth depends on if the parents are married or in a civil partnership.
Parents in a marriage or civil partnership
The birth can be registered by:
- both parents together
- the mother on their own
- the father on their own
Parents who are not married or in a civil partnership
The birth can be registered by:
- the mother on her own
- both parents if the father’s name should be included on the birth certificate
If both parents are to be included on the certificate but only one can make the appointment, you can apply for a statutory declaration of acknowledgement.
