Care experienced children and young people

You are care experienced if:

  • you are over the age of 16 and cared for by Solihull Council, or
  • you have been in care for a period of time after the age of 16

There are different types of care experienced young people depending on:

  • your age
  • whether you are currently looked after
  • how many weeks you were looked after for after the age of 16

Your personal advisor

By the time you are 16, you will be allocated a personal advisor who will work alongside your social worker. You will have a social worker until you are 18.

Your personal advisor will be able to support you in planning:

  • where you live
  • how to manage your money
  • your education
  • how to find a job or start training

Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC)

When you reach 18, things start to change - but you’re not alone.

If you came to the UK on your own to seek safety, your journey continues with support to help you move into adulthood. You’ll get help with:

  • planning your future
  • sorting out your immigration status
  • figuring out what’s next - like education, work, or living independently

If your asylum claim is still being decided, or if it’s refused, we’ll help you to understand your options.

It’s all about making sure you feel safe, supported, and ready for whatever comes next.

Useful information

Our UASC leaflet, created by health professionals, can help you access local services, such as a GP or dentist, and find support.
