Council services over Christmas
Some of our services will change during the festive season.
From the section: Support available if my child attends a nursery
It can be difficult to diagnose young children, or children with a developmental delay, with autism. Some of the differences associated with autism are also present in very young children. However, some early years children are diagnosed.
If your child has a diagnosis of autism from Solihull’s Specialist Assessment Service (SAS), they will send a copy of the diagnosis to the Autism team (which is part of the Specialist Inclusion Support Service (SISS)), along with the SISS referral form and signed parental consent. The Autism team will then contact you or the setting directly to discuss support.
If your child has received a diagnosis of autism from a different medical professional or assessment service, your child can still be referred to the Autism team. It is the nursery SENCo’s duty to make the referral. They will need a copy of the child's diagnosis in writing from the professional who made the diagnosis.
If your child was open to other teams, such as the Early Years Team, support will be moved to the Autism team once your child receives a diagnosis.
